The Prize

I wish I had thought to take a “before” picture of my desk. It was appalling! Picture a ton of books and boxes, all slipping off each other, interspersed with papers of various sizes and then some envelopes, some postcards and stamps, a leftover box of tea, a paperweight or three, some pens, a few trinkets and notepads. A giant tower of mess.

Finally, I worked up the courage to tackle the job. I began by clearing absolutely everything off. Then I added the contents of the neighboring shelves, because I wanted to combine these. I made piles on my king-sized bed, one of colored cardstock, one of colored printing paper, one of boxes of photo paper and printable labels. I sorted the books by keep, give away,  and witch shelf the keepers would go on. I took several breaks, but I got it all done.

It’s a wonderful feeling to complete such a huge task, almost like I’ve given myself a prize.

It makes me wonder what it will feel like when I’ve completed the assignment God has given me for my time on earth. When I receive His “well done, good and faithful servant . . . Come and share your master’s happiness!” (Matthew 25:21) that is my goal.

It’s a prize worth waiting for
