I’m excited about introducing my new book, Jesus: Prophet, Priest, and King. It’s a  92-Day Devotional book, focusing on Jesus’ different roles. As a Prophet, Jesus fulfilled promises; as a Priest, He enhanced the Jewish festivals; and as our King, He walked the land of Israel. As I researched these concepts, I’ve found my awe for God deepening and my love growing.

Here is an except from the book’s first section:

The first and, to us, the most important, prophecy in Scripture is a little hard to find, unless you know where to look. That’s often the way it is in God’s Word – you have to dig deep to get the real gems, but once you know them, they illuminate your path. You begin to see more and more of God’s plan and how it all goes together. This makes me appreciate the mind of God that allows us to interact with Him and be amazed!

Let’s go back to the beginning of the world. God makes a beautiful place and puts His people in it. They sin and God metes out their punishment. In the middle of the deserved curse, He pronounces His first promise. It’s actually in what He says to the serpent: “And I will put enmity between you [the serpent] and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush (or strike) your head, and you will strike his heel.” Okay, so God is telling Adam and Eve that they will have a child, so they will still be able to fulfill the commission God gave to them (Genesis 1:28). And the serpent, whom we know from Revelation 12:9 and 20:2 is actually Satan, will also stick around awhile.

In somewhat literary fashion, God is informing people that there will always be war between God’s people and Satan, but in the end, the Man will crush Satan’s head – destroy him – even though there will be pain for the Man. Just as soon as mankind has sinned, God announces His remedy, the Savior, His offspring and Adam’s, Jesus Messiah.

God goes on to sprinkle more information about the One He is sending throughout His Word.
