9-12 By the BOOK

By the Book Grades 9-12

is in two sections – the first gives an overview of each subject (Bible, English, history, and science) and the second gives the weekly schedules for each year. The first section has the charts, activities, book lists (for alternatives), and directions for paragraphs and papers; the second has the exact assignments to be checked off.

Examples:

Bible By the BOOK Activities

After reading the Bible chapter for each day, you (with input from your teaching parent) will pick an activity that will bring personal depth to the passage. Some activities will fit certain passages better than others. These activities are designed to help you learn to study the Bible by listening to the Holy Spirit and using sound Bible study practices. Choose a variety of activities each week for the best understanding of what God is teaching you.

English By the BOOK Term Paper Alternative (Grades 11 or 12) - Writing a Short Story

As an alternative to the term paper, you might want to write a short story in eleventh or twelfth grade. This short story would be set in one of the time periods from that year's history and require research, compiled in a Works Cited page, just like a term paper. The following outline about a short story is provided to help you with this project. You might want to make an outline of your story from these categories. Your story should be about ten pages, or 3000 words, double spaced.

History By the BOOK Instructions

You will need a loose-leaf notebook or a section in a loose-leaf notebook that is used for all four subjects for your Timeline. One or more resources to look up events and people is also necessary. These can be in print or online. Any search engine will give you many choices for each topic. You might want to look at several. Wikipedia is NOT a reliable source, because anyone can put information there, true or not. For print resources, you can use history text books, encyclopedias, or books specific to the subject (for instance, a book on Chinese Dynasties). The Penguin History of the World and several from DK are good secular choices. Look at specific publishers for history from a Christian perspective. (Note: many good books can be found at thrift stoers.)
